The story of the place
Inaugurated for the 1900 Universal Exhibition, the Pont Alexandre III celebrates the Franco-Russian alliance — it bears the name of Tsar Alexander III. Its first stone was laid by his son, Nicholas II.
A masterpiece of the Belle Époque, it lines up gilding, cherubs and allegories of the Seine and the Neva. This unabashed splendour makes it one of the most photographed places in Paris, and one of the most sought-after for vows and marriage proposals.
