The story of the place
Linking the Louvre to the Institut de France, the Pont des Arts was the first cast-iron bridge in Paris, opened in 1804. Two centuries later, it became a place of pilgrimage for lovers who came from all over the world to hang a love lock and throw the key into the Seine.
In June 2014, a section of railing gave way under the weight: nearly 45 tonnes of love locks were threatening the structure. In 2015, the City of Paris removed all the railing panels. The love locks vanished from the bridge — but not the promises. Padlove makes them eternal, without a single gram on the parapets.
