The narrowest of Paris bridges, the widest for hearts.
When the Pont des Arts emptied out, lovers turned to the Archêvêché, just behind Notre-Dame. The narrowest bridge in the capital carried, in its turn, thousands of vows. Padlove carries on this gesture, freed from its weight.
The story of the place
Built in 1828 at the apse of Notre-Dame cathedral, the Pont de l’Archêvêché offers one of the finest views in Paris over the flying buttresses and the spire. It was this setting that made it, after 2015, the new gathering place for love locks.
As elsewhere, the build-up threatened the railings and the site’s World Heritage listing. Here too, the City had to remove the love locks. The emotion, though, deserved to remain: Padlove keeps it intact, without a single link on the stone.
