This is where it all began, in Serbia. The Most Ljubavi in Vrnjačka Banja is the very first bridge of love, the one from which the tradition of love locks spread across the world. The story of the place

It all begins with a broken story. During the First World War, the schoolmistress Nada and the officer Relja became engaged on this bridge in Vrnjačka Banja. Then Relja left for the front, in Greece, where he loved another woman. Nada never recovered and died of heartbreak, leaving behind a betrayed promise.

Moved by this fate, the young women of the town wanted to protect their own love from the same end. They began to engrave their names, and those of their beloveds, on locks they hung on the bridge. Each lock became a sealed vow, a way to ward off oblivion and unfaithfulness.

From this little Serbian bridge, the ritual spread to the most famous footbridges in the world. The Most Ljubavi remains the origin of it all, the place where the idea of a love locked with a key was born. Padlove is its faithful heir: the same gesture, the same promise, but one that now lives on the map and never on the railing.
